Summary
Perfavion is an innovative flight calculator app designed specifically for the PA-28 Cherokee, a popular civil utility aircraft. Developed for an iPad platform, this app was commissioned by a French client, tailored to assist pilots in making crucial pre-flight calculations.
Client :
Concept and Purpose
The primary purpose of Perfavion is to enhance flight safety and efficiency for PA-28 Cherokee pilots. By allowing pilots to input various parameters such as pilot and passenger mass, airport conditions (altitude, temperature, surface conditions), the app calculates and graphically displays vital flight information, including take-off distance and maximum allowable fuel. This tool aids in ensuring that flights are conducted within safe operational limits.
Design and User Experience
The user interface of Perfavion is designed to be intuitive and efficient, catering specifically to pilots who need quick and accurate calculations. The app features a clean, streamlined design that allows for easy input of data and clear visualization of the results. Screenshots and a video walkthrough in the portfolio showcase the app's user-friendly design and functionality.
Technology and Tools
Perfavion is built for iPad, leveraging iOS development tools. The app incorporates complex algorithms to accurately calculate flight parameters. Given the app was for French client, all text within the app is in French which posed a unique challenge in terms of language and localization.
Development Process
The development of Perfavion involved rigorous planning and testing to ensure accuracy and reliability. This process included extensive research on the PA-28 Cherokee's specifications and consultation with aviation experts to validate the calculations. Regular updates and communication with the client were crucial, especially to address the language-specific aspects of the project.
Challenges and Solutions
A significant challenge was the integration of accurate flight physics and adherence to aviation standards. Extensive testing and iteration were employed to achieve the desired accuracy. The language barrier was another challenge, overcome through collaboration with native French speakers and aviation professionals, ensuring that all terminologies and instructions were correctly translated and contextually appropriate.
Feedback and Improvements
Post-launch, the app received positive feedback from the client for its accuracy and ease of use. User suggestions have been instrumental in planning future updates, including potential enhancements like real-time weather data integration and support for additional aircraft models.
Personal Learning and Development
Developing Perfavion expanded my skills in iOS development, particularly in implementing complex calculations and graphical representations. The project also enhanced my experience in working with international clients and adapting to language-specific requirements.
Future Directions
Plans for Perfavion include expanding its capabilities to other aircraft models and integrating additional features based on pilot feedback, such as adjustable parameters for varying flight conditions and advanced graphical displays.
This project showcases my ability to develop specialized, user-centric applications that meet specific client needs while addressing real-world challenges in the aviation sector.
